Downloadable Docs Eduactional Theory Methodology of the New Hope Institute Organizational History and the Guatemalan Context A Short History of the New Hope Foundation Strengthening life skills of young Achi men and women in rural communities in the municipality of Rabinal, Department of Baja Verapaz, Guatemala This year our Education Center has been strengthened with the implementation of new projects, which were made possible with support from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives-CFLI- 162 young women and men from rural communities are developing and strengthening their skills in quality production processes and sustainable use of natural resources. They are trained to apply appropriate techniques in different production processes that promote family and community well-being and for the utilization of the resources of their environment. With this process we also promote local capacities, human and social capital that contributes to reducing food insecurity and nutrition-INSAN-, eradicating poverty and malnutrition affecting rural communities, specifically children under 5, pregnant women and nursing mothers. The big challenge is replicating what students learned when they return to their families and communities, as shown by the young Henry Siana Cojom Edy, 14, second grade student from the Chisaliya community, who said: I want to teach what I've learned here at New Hope to contribute to the development of my community. The students are from the following communities: Rio Negro, Xococ, Vegas de Santo Domingo, Vegas del Volcan, Vegas Chuaperol, Chiticoy, Guachipil, San Rafael, Chuategua, Pahoj, Xesiguan, Chiac, Concul, Las Ventanas, San Rafael, Pachica, Acentamiento Pacux, Pantulul, Chuacotzij, Korral Abaj, Chisaliya, El Tablon, Palimonix, Las Delicias, Las Tunas, Plan de Sanchez, Nueva Esperanza, Pacacja del municipio de Rabinal y las comunidades de Chilajom, Chixolop y Las Trojas de San Gabriel, San Miguel y Salama. |
